1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

WELCOME to Elkton Community Library's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten reading program, a reading program for children birth to age 5. Through this program, we encourage parents and caregivers to read 1,000 books to their children before they enter Kindergarten. This may sound difficult, but if you read just three books a day, you will reach 1,000 books in one year!

READING with your child develops vocabulary, increases interest in printed words, and promotes a positive attitude about reading. Research shows these skills are key to learning to read easily and successfully.

SHARING books with your child helps them learn the skills they need to become a reader and helps ensure a solid foundation for learning when they reach Kindergarten.

SIGN UP: Enroll your baby, toddler or child in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Elkton Community Library and receive your free packet to get started. You will need to have a library card with the Elkton Community Library.

TRACK each book you read...even if you read it again and again! For every 100 books you read, bring your reading log to the library to receive a prize. When you reach 1,000 books you will receive a special prize!
