Both the Elkton Fire Department and Ambulance are made up of volunteers who willingly donate their time to serving others. They proudly serve the community of Elkton as well as surrounding areas.
Each volunteer member of the Elkton Ambulance has completed the required 110 hours of basic EMT schooling.
Ambulance meetings are held the fourth Monday of every month at the fire hall.
The Elkton Ambulance Crew consists of volunteers:
*Tom "Emmett" Kuehl, volunteer fire fighter and EMT, gave his life in April of 2006, while protecting and serving the very community he grew up in and loved.
He was a dedicated community member, loved and respected by family and friends. He enjoyed riding his Harley, attending sporting events in Elkton, NSU in Aberdeen and SDSU. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan.
Emmett's memory lives on through a bronze fire fighter statue that can be seen on Elkton's main street. Emmett's family has established a scholarship for Elkton High School graduates in his memory.
He will always be remembered fondly and never forgotten.
"Ride On, Emmett! Ride On!"
*Dennis Kampmann, long-time volunteer fire fighter and Elkton resident, battled many fires over his years of service, but lost his battle with brain cancer on August 2, 2007. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, and spending time with his family, especially his beautiful grand daughters. He will be remembered with a smile, and missed by all who were privileged to know him.
